Housed in the original Clarens Post Office built in 1921, from local Rooiberg sandstone the Post Office received and distributed mail to residents of Clarens for 73 years, beginning when mail was delivered on horseback, mail coaches, and finally South African Railway Buses.
There are many explanations and tales from generations of families as to why the Post Office moved premises in 1994, however the name has lingered. We are situated at the Post House corner, in the old Post Office where there is still an atmosphere of gathering, town folk meet under the shade of trees sitting on benches, much like we imagine the Post Office of earlier years where mail was one of few forms of contact with the outside world, and a perfect place to exchange information and share news.
